In the 1960s, a group of young artists began to change the language of art with the visual jargon of the streets. Their paintings and sculptures celebrated the idiom of urban culture- advertising, comics, photography, and design- with sometimes affirmative, sometimes ironical, or critical intent. POP ART changed the focus of the world's contemporary art with New York supplanting Paris as setting the tone in aesthetic concert, much to the chagrin of many supporters of modern art in the U.S.
Three prominent Pop artists, Lichtenstein, Thiebaud, and Warhol will be featured in a video and later discussion led by Lolly and David Owens will focus on Warhol who was born in Pittsburgh (1931).
